Interview and book reading at The Drama Book Shop

Last night my interviews/reading/signing at The Drama Book Shop was truly special for me. The topic, “Do we really need another book on Sondheim?” was so fun to explore, especially in a book store, and was touchingly answered by the end of the night by (co-host of The Drama Book Shop Podcast) with “We need THIS book on Sondheim!”

The room was filled with friends both new and old. I was interviewed by Michel Mitnick, whom I acknowledged in my book with “Whenever I hit a wall, he showed me how to build a door and encouraged me to walk through it.” A true delight. And — if you can believe it — I met my editor for the first time, Christopher Chappel who has championed the book from the beginning.

The interview will be shared on the podcast from the Drama Book Shop AND on my own – so subscribe to both – and I had fun chatting during the post-talk book signing.

Afterwards, the thrill of seeing my book on the shelf in their Sondheim section was only surpassed by seeing Matching Minds as part of their 3,500 pound, 140 foot long bookworm sculpture! It is composed of 140 feet of scripts and songbooks, twisted along a steel skeleton. It starts with ancient Greek texts and, 2,400 volumes later, spills into a pile that now includes Matching Minds with Sondheim!
