Sondheim and Murder in Rochester, NY

This week I presented my Sondheim and The Game of Murder presentation in Rochester, NY, at the SeriousPlay conference. I’m still working out the kinks but the packed room told me afterwards how much they loved it and blew their minds.

My favorite part was asking their one favorite part and to recommend one thing to cut; everyone had a different highlight and most were unwilling to cut anything! No actually, my favorite was hearing later how much they wanted to tell others about what they had learned.

I include here also three highlights of the city:

One is the Rochester Garbage Plate, a signature dish from the city, known for its chaotic mix of ingredients. It features a base of two sides like macaroni salad and home fries, topped with two choices of meat such as burgers or hot dogs, a signature meat sauce (often called “hot meat sauce” or “sludge”), and other condiments like mustard and onions. Yum!

The second is The National Strong Museum of Play, which I’ve spent two decades wanting to visit and did not disappoint. This is me with Jerry Lawson, NYC-native who invented the gaming console cartridge.

Finally, I got to finally meet the marvelous James McCusker who for years has fed me amazing content and leads for The Last of Sheila (and whom you will hear later in that episode of my new podcast).
