The event’s advance promotion leaned into the mystique of the now oft-referenced 1968 Halloween hunt, recounting it in detail. The website advertised that the $1,500 per seat fundraiser, “Hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick… will send guests on a once-in-a-lifetime thrill ride through the American Museum of Natural History on one of legendary composer Stephen Sondheim’s coveted Treasure Hunts.” They promised a “magical and brain teasing team competition” and that “the few New York insiders that have been lucky enough to previously participate in Mr. Sondheim’s coveted treasure-games know what an amazing night they are in store for.”
It was as if they were saying, “Generations have kicked themselves for missing out in 1968. Don’t make the same mistake.”
